I also offer group sessions at wellness retreats and festivals. Patients receive auricular acupuncture in a shared space with others. This can be a cost-effective way to receive treatment and can also provide a sense of community and support.

At Point 9, I believe that auricular acupuncture has incredible potential to help heal the mind and body. We use the NADA protocol, a protocol that has been used around the world for over 40 years, to help people with a range of conditions, from anxiety and depression to chronic pain and addiction.

(1)  Sympathetic – calms the nervous system and helps with overall relaxation.

(2)  Shen Men - Tranquillises the mind, allows a connection to one’s spirit; Helps all other auricular points work better. Key point for alleviating pain.

(3)  Kidney Point – for calming fears and healing internal organs.

(4)  Liver Point – for detoxification, blood purification, and to quell aggression.

(5)  Lung Point – promotes aeration and helps clients let go of grief

For those experiencing musculoskeletal pain, I offer battlefield acupuncture, a technique developed by the military to quickly relieve pain in combat situations. This technique involves inserting small needles in specific areas of the ear to activate the body's natural painkillers.

So why is this so effective? Research carried out in Korea using MRI scans, has shown a reduction in the size of the active pain receptor areas in the brain, after the insertion of the needles. So it would appear that these ear points have the ability to block pain reception and over time maintain this reduction in size of pain reception areas in the brain. This corresponds with patients’ reported reductions in pain. It has been shown to be effective in treating a variety of conditions, including back pain, migraines, and arthritis.

(1) Cingulate Gyrus - Part of the limbic lobe of the brain involved in processing emotion, learning and memory.

(2) Omega 2 - Used for musculoskeletal pain, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammation of the limbs.

(3) Point Zero - Brings the whole body to homeostatic balance; balances energy, hormones, and brain activity; supports the actions of other points; controls visceral organs through the peripheral nerve ganglia. Promotes willpower.

(4) Shen Men - Tranquillises the mind, Helps all other auricular points work better. Key point for alleviating pain.

(5) Thalamus Point - Regulates over excitement: anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia; restores tranquility; reduces chronic pain; tonifies the brain and calms the mind; used for drug detoxification; water metabolism; internal organ functions.
